NEW BLOOMFIELD, Pa. -- A sophomore killed at Virginia Tech had attended a military prep school in Perry County.
Matthew La Porte, of Durmont, N.J., spent five years at Carson Long Military Institute in New Bloomfield.
La Porte graduated third in his class at the school and received an academic scholarship to Virginia Tech.
Col. Carson Holman, president of the institute, said La Port was "a great kid, good school citizen. It was a pleasure to have him here. It's tragic to all of us."
News 8's George Lettis is talking with teachers at Carson Long Military Institute who knew La Porte.
You can see that story this evening on News 8.
