Virginia Tech Casualty on April 16, 2007

Matt La Porte, 20, was killed in the nation’s deadliest massacre, a shooting rampage at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., that left 32 dead before the gunman killed himself April 16, 2007.

On April 9, 2015 he was awarded the Airman's Medal. The highest awared for heroism an airman can receive when not directly involved in combat with an armed enemy of the United States. Ms. Kline, LTC Morgan, and CDTs Richards and Wszolek attended the ceremony.
